If you are the kind of person that always need a map to find the right direction, this article is for you! And why? Maybe you are asking! In Portugal, there is a pretty, little village where there is no way to get lost… Let me introduce you to the one-street Portuguese Village: Casal de São Simão.

Casal de São Simão is a small village of just one street! Yes, only one street. The village is located in Figueiró dos Vinhos, in the mountainous hillsides of Serra da Lousã.

Casal de São Simão integrates the group of Portuguese Schist Villages. The village enjoys an unrivalled location on the side of a quartzite ridge, the reason why the predominant building material is quartzite. Nowadays, strolling around the place is a delightful experience, the houses were restored by the people. It is easy to understand why Casal de São Simão has become a getaway for the weekend.

What to do in Casal de São Simão?

Despite being a small village, Casal de São Simão provides incredible experiences. The little village has some beautiful places to visit: the fountain, the chapel, and a footpath which leads us to the river.

So, what to do first? For me, nothing better than appreciating the quietude of the village, discovering every detail, and why not try to meet the neighbours? It is one of my favorite things, people always have stories to tell us. Then, you can start your journey through the beautiful landscape of Fragas de São Simão.

Fragas de São Simão are one of the wonders of the region. The roughness of the landscape, the vertiginous hills, and the valleys turn the scenery extraordinary. Also, the new wooden Fragas de São Simão Walkways are becoming a huge attraction. The wooden walkways connect the Fragas de São Simão Viewpoint and the village. During your journey, there is nothing better than stopping to enjoy the river beach. It is a linear path with 1730 meters, 3,5 km round trip.

In the region, there are two streams: Ribeira de Alge and Ribeira do Fato. It looks like a perfect destination for next summer, right?

Are you fond of wooden walkways?

There is no doubt: the walkways are booming. If you are looking for a new adventure, you should read the article about Paiva Walkways. Paiva Walkways are located in Arouca, in Aveiro District. The place is recognized by UNESCO, as a Geological Heritage of Humanity. Here, you can also find Bridge 516 Arouca: the Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge in Portugal.

Last but not least, another option: the wooden Walkways in Aveiro! This place is a true treasure and the perfect place to get closer to the natural environment.

So many options to have a wonderful time during your next Portuguese getaway! Portugal has so many stunning places! Let me know if you have any good suggestions, as well.
